Towns in Italy have done it several times and now a small town in France is taking a second run at their own $1 home program. The French town of Saint-Amand-Montrond is selling a 828-square-foot house for 1 euro or $1.07 USD. The property also includes a courtyard and a garage, according to Ouest France, and is located in the city center of the small town. Much like with some of the other deals in Europe, this house needs serious work. It hasn't been lived in for 12 years, and the town estimates it will cost about $136,180 USD to renovate.

The U.S. has said it is willing to introduce a resolution at the UN Security Council to authorize such a force. "We will be doing everything that we can to support that process and ensure swift passage of that resolution," Feinstein said. She said the U.S. would seek contributions such as personnel, equipment, training, financing or other support from countries across the world. Recommendations from an Aug. 15 UN report are likely to shape what the force would look like, she said. Haiti's government requested international security assistance last year and the UN has repeatedly voiced its support for a security force.

CNN —An ancient stone site in western France has been removed to make way for a new hardware store, sparking criticism of the local mayor. The mayor of Carnac, Olivier Lepick, insisted he adhered to the law in granting planning permission for the new Mr Bricolage hardware store. “Whether it’s little or not, [the site] has an archaeological value,” Obeltz told CNN affiliate BFMTV. “There were not archaeological remains of sufficient value to reject planning permission,” the mayor said. On Thursday, French far right politician, Marine Le Pen retweeted a link to an article by local French newspaper, Ouest France, calling the removal “deplorable” and remarking that the French state “protects neither our citizens or our heritage.”

The nearby tourist sites of Ménec, Kermario, and Kerlescan, which collectively hold around 3,000 ancient stones, are carefully managed. Mr BricolageThe UNESCO application, if it goes through, will see the sites more closely regulated.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was first held in May 1923 to help spur innovation in the growing automotive industry by emphasizing not just speed, but also efficiency, reliability and endurance. “It is a very demanding race, and the greatest race,” said Tom Kristensen, who has won Le Mans a record nine times. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest organized that first race, designing a course on public roads south of Le Mans that bisected forests and passed residential areas.

June 1 (Reuters) - Detainees in overcrowded cells in Haitian police stations are living in "inhumane, degrading conditions", a human rights group RNDDH said Thursday, with police relying on makeshift prisons amid insecurity and a crippled judicial system. Six police stations that the group RNDDH visited in Haiti's Ouest Department showed "very alarming" conditions, it said, urging immediate action from the judicial system, which has struggled for years and is facing strikes by staff calling for better work conditions. The rights group said many of the detainees in the Port-au Prince station had received no visits, reducing their access to food and water normally brought by relatives. Haiti has seen an escalation in violence by armed gangs, driving a humanitarian crisis that has displaced tens of thousands of people. The situation in the Caribbean country remains extremely volatile as heavily armed gangs continue to drive a humanitarian crisis that has displaced tens of thousands amid frequent kidnappings for ransom, gang rapes, tortures and murders. The vigilante movement, known as "Bwa Kale", began after residents of the capital Port-au-Prince lynched and set fire to over a dozen suspected gang members in the early morning of April 24. "Without making a value judgment, the 'Bwa Kale' movement has in just one month produced convincing, visible results; fear has changed sides," CARDH said in the report. Port-au-Prince, which CARDH estimates is now 60% controlled by armed gangs, sits in Haiti's Ouest Department where most of vigilante killings that it recorded - including lynchings, stonings, beatings and burnings - took place. Bwa Kale, CARDH said, likely emerged from the extreme cruelty inflicted by gangs, the ineffectiveness of the government, police and army and lack of international action.

March 8 (Reuters) - Haitian rights activists on Wednesday called for a stop to the trafficking of weapons into Haiti, as the Caribbean state faces a humanitarian crisis driven by gangs who rights groups say now control most of the country. Haiti does not produce weapons but boys are often seen carrying assault rifles, understood to be from the United States, said Guerline Jozef of migrant-focused non-profit the Haitian Bridge Alliance. "When we are receiving heavy weaponry from the United States and other international culprits, people can kill with impunity and we will not see accountability," she said at an event in Los Angeles. "If we can stop the flow of heavy weaponry into Haiti, then we can start to see relief in sight." Both Ducena and Solages rejected government assertions it had been helping thousands of women who survived sexual abuse.
